Alleppey style Fish Curry
Red mullet curry

Ingredients :
Fish (red mullet) - 750 gram
Malabar Tamarind (kudampuli) - 3 small pieces
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Red chilly powder - 2 1/2 tbsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Green chilly - 4
Shallots - handful, crushed
Ginger- 2 small cubes, crushed
Curry leaves - as required
Coconut milk - of 1/2 coconut. Separate into first pressed (3 tbsp) and second pressed coconut milk (2 1/2 cups).
Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
Salt- to taste
Instructions :
1. In a hot kadai, add coconut oil. When hot, add chopped shallots, ginger,green chillies and curry leaves.
2. Saute well until brown.
3. Make the masala powders to a thick paste.
4. Add the paste. Saute well in low flame.
5. Add 2 1/2 cups of second pressed coconut milk. Add the tamarind and salt to taste. Let it boil.
6. Add cleaned fish.
7. Cover with a lid and let it cook in a low heat. Do not stir with a spoon. Instead , in between open occasionally and and rotate the pot. Cook until the oil clears on the top.
8. Finally, add 3 tbsp of first pressed coconut milk and turn off the heat.
SERVE HOT BOILED RICE OR TAPIOCA!!!!
